About the Honda S500
The S500 was Honda's first production passenger car, a jewel-like roadster that translated the company's motorcycle expertise into four wheels. Its tiny 531cc engine featured advanced dual overhead camshafts and four Keihin carburettors, allowing it to scream to a 9,500 rpm redline—a figure unheard of for production cars in 1963. The drivetrain was equally unconventional, utilizing a chain-drive system for the rear wheels that doubled as the trailing arms for the independent suspension. With only 1,363 units produced before being replaced by the S600, it remains a rare and highly sought-after cornerstone of Japanese automotive history.
