About the Honda Jazz Mk1

The first-generation Honda Jazz, known as the Fit in Japan and the US, revolutionised the small car segment with its 'Magic Seats' and central fuel tank layout. The 1.4-litre i-DSI engine uses two spark plugs per cylinder to optimise combustion for fuel efficiency rather than outright performance. While not a driver's car in the traditional sense, its light controls and exceptional visibility made it a city favourite. It consistently topped reliability surveys throughout its production run, cementing Honda's reputation for mechanical longevity.

Honda Jazz Mk1 fun facts

  • The 'Magic Seats' allow the rear seat bases to flip up like cinema seats, creating a tall loading area behind the front chairs.
  • Honda placed the fuel tank under the front seats rather than the rear to maximise interior floor space and cargo capacity.
  • The 1.4-litre engine is actually 1339cc, which in many markets would be rounded down to a 1.3, but Honda marketed it as a 1.4 in Europe.
