About the Suzuki Ignis

The second-generation Suzuki Ignis, launched in 2016 and facelifted in 2020, is a distinctive 'ultra-compact SUV' that blends city car dimensions with rugged crossover styling. The 2020 update introduced a revised 1.2-litre Dualjet engine paired with an enhanced 12V mild-hybrid system, improving efficiency and low-end response. In SZ5 trim, it features a sliding rear bench that allows owners to prioritise either class-leading rear legroom or boot space. Its exceptionally low kerb weight, often under 900kg, makes it surprisingly agile and efficient despite its modest power output.

Suzuki Ignis fun facts

  • The Ignis features three distinctive diagonal slashes on the C-pillar, a design homage to the 1970s Suzuki SC100 'Whizzkid' rear-engined coupe.
  • Despite its tiny footprint, the Ignis was one of the few cars in its class to offer a genuine mechanical four-wheel-drive system, known as ALLGRIP Auto.
  • The 2020 facelift replaced the previous 3Ah lithium-ion battery with a larger 10Ah unit to improve the energy recovery of the mild-hybrid system.
