About the Ford Orion Mk2
The Ford Orion Mk2 was a significant evolution of Ford's C-segment saloon, designed to offer a more conservative, three-box alternative to the Escort hatchback. In 1.6 Ghia trim, it utilised the fuel-injected CVH engine from the Escort XR3i, providing surprisingly brisk performance in a package that was cheaper to insure and less targeted by thieves. The Ghia specification was remarkably well-equipped for the era, featuring central locking, a sunroof, and electric windows as standard. Today, it is a rare sight on UK roads, with survivors increasingly sought after by enthusiasts of 1980s 'Blue Oval' nostalgia.
