About the Chevrolet Celebrity
Introduced in 1982, the Chevrolet Celebrity was a cornerstone of GM's transition to front-wheel drive, replacing the rear-drive Malibu on the new A-body platform. It was designed to offer maximum interior space and fuel efficiency during an era of high energy costs, quickly becoming a staple of American roads. While its 'Iron Duke' four-cylinder engine provided modest performance, the Celebrity's practicality resonated with buyers, leading it to become the best-selling car in the United States in 1986. Today, it is remembered as a quintessential 1980s workhorse, though survivors in good condition are increasingly rare due to their high-mileage utility roles.

Chevrolet Celebrity fun facts
- The 1986 Celebrity was the last Chevrolet to hold the title of the best-selling car in the United States.
- Despite its name, the Celebrity was often criticised for its 'transparent' corporate rebadging, sharing almost all major components with the Buick Century and Pontiac 6000.
- The 2.5-litre 'Iron Duke' engine was so durable that it was also used in the Grumman LLV, the standard United States Postal Service delivery truck.
