About the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 S197
The 2007 Shelby GT500 marked the first time the iconic nameplate appeared on a factory Mustang since 1970. Developed by Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT) in collaboration with Carroll Shelby, it utilised a 5.4-litre iron-block V8 derived from the Ford GT supercar, topped with an Eaton supercharger. While its heavy nose and live rear axle made it more of a traditional muscle car than a precision instrument, its raw straight-line performance was unmatched in the Mustang range at the time. It remains a significant collector piece as the car that reignited the modern horsepower wars between Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge.
