About the Ford Freestar
The Ford Freestar was introduced for the 2004 model year as a heavily revised version of the Windstar, adopting Ford's new 'F' naming convention. While it retained the older V-platform, it featured significant upgrades to the drivetrain, including larger wheel bearings and standard four-wheel disc brakes to address previous reliability concerns. The 3.9-litre Essex V6 served as the entry-level engine in the US, providing adequate torque but struggling against more refined Japanese rivals. Despite achieving a 'Good' frontal crash rating from the IIHS, slow sales and the rising popularity of SUVs led to its discontinuation after only four years.
