About the Ford Focus ST Mk4
The fourth-generation Focus ST marked a significant step up in performance, adopting a detuned version of the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine previously found in the Focus RS and Mustang. It was the first front-wheel-drive Ford to feature an electronically controlled limited-slip differential (eLSD), which significantly improved cornering traction compared to the brake-based systems of its predecessors. While it lost the raw, unrefined edge of the Mk3, the Mk4 gained sophisticated adaptive damping and a more premium interior featuring Recaro sports seats. It remains a benchmark for usable, everyday performance in the hot hatch segment, though production ended in 2025 as Ford pivoted toward electrification.
