About the Ford Fiesta XR2 Mk1
Launched in late 1981, the Mk1 XR2 was Ford's first true entry into the burgeoning hot hatch market, replacing the 1.3 Supersport. It utilised the 1.6-litre Kent Crossflow engine, providing a raw and mechanical driving experience that modern cars struggle to replicate. Distinguished by its round headlamps, 'pepperpot' alloy wheels, and black plastic wheel arch extensions, it became a cult icon of the 1980s. Its light weight and unassisted steering make it exceptionally agile, though its short production run and susceptibility to rust have made original examples increasingly rare.
