About the Fiat Tipo 160

Launched in 1988 to replace the Ritmo, the Fiat Tipo (Type 160) was a landmark for the brand, winning the 1989 European Car of the Year award. It was built on a highly versatile 'Type Two' platform that later underpinned various Alfa Romeo and Lancia models, featuring a fully galvanised body to combat Fiat's historical rust issues. The 1.4-litre variant served as a core model, offering class-leading interior space and a distinctive boxy silhouette designed by Ercole Spada at I.DE.A Institute. While once common, early Tipos are now becoming rare sights on European roads, gaining interest for their clean industrial design and historical significance.
