About the Fiat 8 HP

The Fiat 8 HP, introduced in 1901, marked a significant evolution for the young Fabbrica Italiana di Automobili Torino. Designed by engineer Giovanni Enrico, it was the first Fiat to feature a front-mounted engine, moving away from the rear-engine layout of the earlier 3.5 HP and 6 HP models. Its 1.1-litre two-cylinder engine was initially cooled by a serpentine radiator, later replaced by a more efficient honeycomb design. The model gained legendary status when eight examples entered and successfully completed the grueling 1,642 km Giro d'Italia automobilistico in 1901, with one driven by company founder Giovanni Agnelli.
