About the Fiat 522
The Fiat 522 was introduced in 1931 as a successor to the 521, featuring a shortened chassis and a more refined 2.5-litre side-valve straight-six engine. It was offered in two wheelbase lengths, the 522 C (short) and 522 L (long), and was notable for being one of the first Fiats to feature a four-speed all-synchromesh transmission. The model also spawned a high-performance 'S' (Sport) version with a higher compression engine. Its elegant styling and mechanical sophistication made it a popular choice for the Italian upper-middle class before it was replaced by the Fiat 527.
