About the Bond Bug
Designed by Tom Karen of Ogle Design, the Bond Bug was a radical departure from the 'austerity' image of traditional three-wheelers, aimed squarely at a younger, style-conscious generation. Its distinctive wedge-shaped fibreglass body and forward-hinging canopy made it a 1970s icon, though its high price—exceeding that of a contemporary Mini—limited its commercial success. The 700E was the mid-range trim, featuring a heater and side screens as standard, powered by Reliant's lightweight all-alloy engine. Today, it is a highly prized cult classic, famous for its go-kart-like handling and its role as the basis for Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder in Star Wars.

Bond Bug fun facts
- The Bond Bug's chassis and running gear were used to build the original Landspeeder prop for the 1977 film Star Wars: A New Hope.
- Almost every Bond Bug was finished in the same signature 'Brilliant Tangerine' paint; only a handful of white and lime green promotional cars were ever produced.
- Because it had only three wheels, the Bug could be driven in the UK on a motorcycle licence and qualified for lower road tax rates.
