About the Ferrari 512 BBi
The 512 BBi represents the ultimate development of the Berlinetta Boxer series, replacing the carburetted 512 BB in 1981. The 'i' denotes the switch to Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, which improved reliability and cold-start manners while meeting stricter global emissions standards. Though peak power dropped slightly compared to its predecessor, the BBi offered a broader torque curve and superior drivability. Its mid-mounted flat-12 engine sits above the gearbox, a unique layout that gives the car a high centre of gravity but allows for a remarkably short wheelbase. As the last of the hand-built Boxers before the Testarossa, it remains a landmark of Pininfarina's wedge-era design.

Ferrari 512 BBi fun facts
- The 512 BBi was never officially sold by Ferrari in the United States; all American examples were brought in via grey-market importers and 'federalised' to meet local regulations.
- It features a unique 'single-arm, twin-blade' windshield wiper designed to clear the massive, steeply raked glass at high speeds.
- The 512 BBi was the first Ferrari to feature Michelin TRX metric-sized tyres as standard equipment, requiring specific wheels that cannot fit traditional inch-sized tyres.
