About the Dodge Nitro
The Dodge Nitro was a short-lived attempt to bring the brand's 'bold and brash' American aesthetic to the global compact SUV market. Sharing its underpinnings with the Jeep Liberty (KK), the Nitro prioritised street presence over off-road capability, featuring massive wheel arches and a distinctive crosshair grille. The 2.8-litre CRD engine, sourced from VM Motori, was the primary choice for European buyers, offering significant torque but struggling to mask the car's unrefined road manners and heavy kerb weight. While it gained a cult following for its looks, it was often criticised for its low-rent interior plastics and lack of dynamic polish.

Dodge Nitro fun facts
- The Nitro's name and styling were inspired by the Nitro Express elephant gun cartridges, reflecting its intended 'heavy-duty' image.
- It featured a 'Load 'N Go' slide-out cargo floor that could extend 18 inches to help with loading heavy items up to 180kg.
- Despite its rugged appearance, the Nitro was primarily a road-biased vehicle and lacked the low-range transfer case found in its Jeep Liberty sibling.
