About the Dodge Daytona
The Dodge Daytona was Chrysler's answer to the sports coupe market of the 1980s, utilizing the versatile G-platform derived from the K-car architecture. The 2.2 Turbo trim featured the 'Turbo I' engine, which provided a significant performance boost over the base naturally aspirated units, making it a competitive front-wheel-drive alternative to contemporary imports. Its wedge-shaped styling, complete with pop-up headlights introduced in the 1987 facelift, defined the era's aesthetic. While later Shelby-tuned variants offered more power, the standard Turbo remained a popular choice for its balance of daily usability and period-correct turbo lag thrills.
