About the De Tomaso Pantera
The De Tomaso Pantera is the definitive mid-engined supercar of the 1970s, born from a partnership between Alejandro de Tomaso and Ford. Designed by Tom Tjaarda at Ghia, its wedge-shaped steel monocoque body housed a reliable 351 cubic-inch Ford Cleveland V8, offering exotic performance without the maintenance complexity of its Italian rivals. While early cars faced cooling and build quality issues, the 1972 models benefited from improved production standards and the introduction of the 'L' (Lusso) luxury trim. It remains a collector favourite for its visceral driving experience, gated ZF manual shifter, and unmistakable silhouette.
