About the Daihatsu Hijet S70
The S70-series Hijet 850 was the primary export variant of Daihatsu's sixth-generation microvan, designed to offer more utility than the domestic Japanese 'kei' models. By utilizing a larger 843cc three-cylinder engine and 12-inch wheels, it provided better stability and torque for international markets. Known for its cab-over design and mid-mounted engine, it offered exceptional cargo space relative to its tiny footprint. While basic and slow by modern standards, its mechanical simplicity and reliability have made it a cult favourite among micro-commercial vehicle collectors.

Daihatsu Hijet S70 fun facts
- The Hijet 850 was sold in the UK as a larger alternative to the '55 Wide' model, which used the smaller 550cc engine.
- Accessing the engine requires simply lifting the front seats, as the motor is mid-mounted just behind the front axle.
- The name 'Hijet' was created by Daihatsu to imply higher performance than their earlier three-wheeled 'Midget' truck.
