About the Citroën Type A
The Citroën Type A was the first vehicle produced by André Citroën and the first European car to be manufactured using assembly-line techniques inspired by Henry Ford. Launched in 1919, it was designed by Jules Salomon to be simple, reliable, and affordable, featuring an electric starter and lighting as standard—luxuries for the era. Its 1.3-litre engine and innovative quarter-elliptic spring suspension provided a level of comfort and ease of use that became a hallmark of the brand. As the foundational model of Citroën, it remains a significant piece of industrial history, though its rear-only braking system requires a cautious driving style by modern standards.
