About the Citroën Axel

The Citroën Axel was the result of a joint venture between the Romanian government and Citroën, produced in Craiova as the Oltcit Club and exported to Western Europe. While it resembled the French-built Visa, it was built on a completely different platform derived from the earlier 'Project Y' prototypes. It featured air-cooled flat-four engines and a torsion bar suspension system, offering a distinctively soft ride but suffering from poor build quality compared to its French siblings. Today, it is a rare curiosity of the Cold War era, with very few surviving examples in Western Europe.
