About the Citroën Ami 6
Launched in 1961 to bridge the gap between the utilitarian 2CV and the futuristic DS, the Ami 6 is best known for its controversial 'Z-Line' reverse-raked rear window. Designed by Flaminio Bertoni, who considered it his masterpiece, the car prioritised rear passenger headroom and a clear rear view in the rain. Underneath, it utilised a modified 2CV chassis with a larger 602cc flat-twin engine and a sophisticated interconnected suspension system that provided an exceptionally smooth ride. While its looks divided opinion, it became France's best-selling car by 1966, particularly in its later Estate form.
