About the Chrysler Crossfire
Born from the DaimlerChrysler merger, the Crossfire is essentially a first-generation Mercedes-Benz SLK (R170) wrapped in a dramatic, straked body designed by Eric Stoddard. It shares roughly 40% of its components with the SLK, including the reliable M112 V6 engine and recirculating-ball steering, which gives it a more relaxed, grand-touring character than its sharp-edged rivals. Built by Karmann in Germany, the interior features a distinctively metallic center console and Mercedes-sourced switchgear. While criticized for its aging platform at launch, it has aged into a unique modern classic valued for its bold 'boat-tail' rear styling and robust mechanicals.
