About the BMW X1 F48
The second-generation BMW X1 (F48) marked a significant engineering shift for the brand, moving from the rear-wheel-drive architecture of its predecessor to the front-wheel-drive UKL2 platform shared with Mini. This transition prioritised interior packaging and practicality, resulting in a significantly roomier cabin and a larger 505-litre boot despite a shorter overall wheelbase. The sDrive18d SE serves as the entry-level diesel variant, balancing efficiency with the premium build quality expected of the Bavarian marque. While purists initially lamented the loss of rear-drive dynamics, the F48 proved highly successful as a versatile family vehicle with improved ride comfort and modernised infotainment.
