About the BMW M535i E12
The E12 M535i is the first series-production road car to emerge from BMW's Motorsport division, effectively serving as the spiritual ancestor to the M5. It features the M90 engine, a 3.5-litre unit derived from the M1 supercar's block, paired with a close-ratio 'dogleg' Getrag gearbox and a limited-slip differential. Distinguished by its deep front air dam, rubber rear spoiler, and optional tri-colour Motorsport stripes, it offered supercar-rivalling performance in a discreet executive body. Hand-finished at the Garching facility, it remains a highly coveted rarity among BMW collectors for its purity and historical significance.
