About the Autobianchi Bianchina
Introduced in 1962 to replace the Trasformabile, the Berlina (also known as the Quattroposti) brought a more conventional fixed-roof saloon silhouette to the Bianchina range. While it shared its rear-mounted 499cc twin-cylinder engine and chassis with the Fiat 500D, it was positioned as a premium alternative with superior trim, chrome detailing, and a more spacious four-seat cabin. The design by Luigi Rapi traded the earlier model's suicide doors for front-hinged units and a squared-off roofline that significantly improved rear headroom. It remains a darling of the microcar world, offering a more sophisticated 'Dolce Vita' aesthetic than the utilitarian Fiat on which it is based.
