About the Autobianchi A112
Launched at the 1969 Turin Motor Show, the Autobianchi A112 was a revolutionary response to the Mini, offering a more refined and practical three-door hatchback package. It utilised a shortened version of the Fiat 128 platform, featuring a transverse engine and front-wheel drive layout that would later underpin the mass-market Fiat 127. Designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone, the A112 was positioned as a premium city car, combining chic Italian styling with nimble urban handling. While the 903cc engine was modest, the car's featherweight construction ensured it remained engaging and cheerful to drive.
