About the Fiat 1400
Introduced at the 1950 Geneva Motor Show, the Fiat 1400 was a landmark for the Italian manufacturer as its first all-new post-war design and its first vehicle to feature unibody construction. Designed by Dante Giacosa, it adopted the modern 'Ponton' styling that integrated the wings into the bodywork, moving away from pre-war aesthetics. While the 1.4-litre engine offered modest performance, the car was praised for its refinement, soundproofing, and comfortable ride, which made it a favourite of the emerging Italian middle class. Its robust engineering also led to it being the first car produced under licence by SEAT in Spain and Zastava in Yugoslavia.
