About the AMC Pacer
Designed by Richard Teague, the AMC Pacer was a bold attempt to redefine the American compact car by offering full-size width and interior space in a short, glass-heavy package. The DL (Deluxe) trim added upscale touches like woodgrain dashboard accents and 'Navajo' patterned upholstery, aiming to elevate the car's economy-focused roots. While its unconventional 'flying fishbowl' aesthetics were polarizing at launch, the Pacer has transitioned from a punchline to a genuine cult classic. Its driving experience is defined by exceptional visibility and a soft, comfortable ride, though it is hampered by the weight of its extensive glasshouse and aging straight-six engines.

AMC Pacer fun facts
- The passenger door is four inches longer than the driver's door to make it easier for rear-seat passengers to enter and exit from the kerb side.
- The Pacer was originally designed to use a GM-sourced Wankel rotary engine, but when that project was cancelled, AMC had to retrofit their heavy iron-block inline-sixes.
- A 1976 Pacer famously served as the 'Mirthmobile' in the 1992 film Wayne's World, cementing its place in pop culture history.
