About the Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ 101
The Giulietta SZ (Sprint Zagato) was born from a crashed Sprint Vento that was rebodied by Zagato for driver Giampiero Simi, proving so successful in competition that Alfa Romeo commissioned a limited production run. Built on the shorter Spider chassis, it features a hand-hammered aluminium body, Perspex windows, and a spartan interior to achieve a weight saving of over 100kg compared to the standard Sprint Vento. The early 'Coda Tonda' (round tail) models are celebrated for their purity of line and exceptional agility, powered by the high-compression 'Veloce' version of Alfa's twin-cam engine. It remains one of the most desirable post-war Alfas due to its significant racing pedigree and artisanal construction.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ 101 fun facts
- The SZ was so light and aerodynamic that it could reach 200 km/h with just 1.3 litres of displacement, a remarkable feat for the early 1960s.
- Because the bodies were hand-beaten over wooden bucks at Zagato, no two cars are exactly identical in their dimensions.
- The car lacked external door handles to reduce drag, instead using a small pull-cable inside the door shut.
