About the Volkswagen Type 3
Introduced to diversify Volkswagen's range beyond the Beetle, the Type 3 offered more space and refinement while retaining the reliable air-cooled architecture. The Fastback (TL) joined the Notchback and Variant in 1965, providing a sleek profile and a surprisingly large amount of luggage space thanks to its 'pancake' engine design. By 1970, the model featured the 'long-nose' front end for improved crash safety and Bosch D-Jetronic electronic fuel injection in some markets, making it one of the first mass-produced cars with such technology. It offers a more planted, mature driving experience than the Beetle, though it remains distinctly mechanical and characterful.
