About the Ford Consul Classic
The Ford Consul Classic, also known as the 315 in export markets, was a mid-sized saloon designed to bridge the gap between the Anglia and the larger Zephyr. Its styling was heavily influenced by American Fords of the late 1950s, most notably the reverse-rake rear window from the Lincoln Continental and quad headlamps reminiscent of the Galaxie. Despite its distinctive looks and advanced features like front disc brakes, it was a commercial disappointment, largely due to being overshadowed by the simpler and more modern Cortina. Today, it is a rare and sought-after curiosity for Ford collectors, prized for its unique 'Transatlantic' aesthetic and mechanical simplicity.

Ford Consul Classic fun facts
- The Classic's reverse-rake rear window was designed to stay clear of rain and snow, a feature shared with the smaller 105E Anglia.
- It was originally intended to launch in 1959, but the runaway success of the Anglia meant Ford lacked the production capacity to build it until 1961.
- The boot capacity was an enormous 21 cubic feet, which was actually 15% larger than the boot of the much bigger Ford Zodiac MK2.
