About the Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 30 Mk5
Released to celebrate three decades of the GTI, the Edition 30 is a significant upgrade over the standard Mk5. It features the 'BYD' engine, which shares its K04 turbocharger and strengthened internals with the Audi S3, providing a 30 PS boost to match its anniversary. Visually, it is distinguished by body-coloured Votex spoilers, smoked taillights, and 18-inch 'Pescara' (or 'Rockingham') wheels. The interior pays homage to the Mk1 with Interlagos plaid seats featuring leather bolsters and the return of the dimpled golf-ball gear knob. It is widely considered the sweet spot of the Mk5 generation, offering a more robust tuning platform and sharper performance than the base GTI.

- The car was never officially sold in the North American market, where the 'Fahrenheit Edition' served as the limited-run Mk5 special instead.
