About the Volkswagen Crafter Mk1

The first-generation Volkswagen Crafter was developed alongside the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, sharing its chassis and body shell but featuring distinct Volkswagen powertrains. The 2.5-litre five-cylinder TDI engine provided a unique character and robust torque delivery compared to its four-cylinder rivals. Available in a vast array of wheelbases and roof heights, it became a staple for logistics and a popular base for campervan conversions. While it lacked the 'car-like' refinement of the smaller Transporter, its massive 17-cubic-metre maximum load capacity made it a class leader in utility.
