About the Vauxhall Royale
The Vauxhall Royale was a badge-engineered version of the Opel Senator A, serving as the flagship replacement for the ageing Ventora. It was designed to compete with the Ford Granada and Rover SD1, offering a smooth 2.8-litre straight-six engine and a high level of interior equipment including velour upholstery and wood trim. While the Royale name was unique to the UK market, the car was actually manufactured by Opel in Rüsselsheim, Germany. It was eventually replaced by the Vauxhall Senator in 1982 as General Motors moved to harmonise its European brands.
