About the Vauxhall Belmont
Launched in 1986, the Vauxhall Belmont was a three-box saloon version of the Mark 2 Astra, designed to compete with the Ford Orion and Volkswagen Jetta. While essentially an Astra from the front bumper to the rear doors, it featured a unique rear end with a massive 550-litre boot that was highly praised for its practicality. The 1.6 GL trim offered a balance of economy and comfort, featuring the reliable 'Big Block' OHC engine and a higher level of interior equipment than the base models. Despite its popularity when new, the Belmont became notorious in the early 2000s for being the most stolen car in Britain, leading to a rapid decline in surviving examples.
