About the Studebaker Avanti
Designed by Raymond Loewy’s team in a 40-day 'crash program', the Avanti was Studebaker's radical attempt to save itself from financial ruin. The R2 trim featured a Paxton centrifugal supercharger, making it one of the fastest American cars of its era and a pioneer in factory forced induction. It was the first American production car to offer standard front disc brakes and featured a built-in roll bar for safety. Despite breaking 29 speed records at Bonneville, production delays and Studebaker's collapse limited its run to just two years.
