About the Smart ForFour W453
The second-generation Smart ForFour (W453) was a radical departure from its front-engined predecessor, sharing a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive platform with the third-generation Renault Twingo. This 1.0-litre naturally aspirated variant serves as the entry-level model, prioritising urban agility over outright performance. Its most notable feature is an exceptionally tight 8.65-metre turning circle, made possible by the lack of drive shafts at the front. While the interior is compact, the 'Tridion' safety cell and clever packaging make it a distinctive and safe choice for city dwellers.

Smart ForFour W453 fun facts
- The W453 ForFour shares approximately 70% of its parts with the Renault Twingo III, though the two cars feature entirely different exterior styling.
- Because the engine is located under the boot floor, the front wheels can turn at a much sharper angle, giving it a turning circle smaller than a London taxi.
- The ForFour was never officially sold in the United States, where Smart only offered the two-seat Fortwo model.
