About the Rover Streetwise
Launched in 2003, the Rover Streetwise was a clever attempt to revitalise the ageing Rover 25 platform on a shoestring budget. Designed by Peter Stevens, it featured a 40mm raised ride height, chunky unpainted plastic bumpers, and roof bars to create a rugged 'urban on-roader' aesthetic. While it lacked four-wheel drive, its tough styling and higher seating position proved surprisingly popular in European cities like Paris and Rome. Today, it is recognised as a pioneer of the subcompact crossover segment, though examples are increasingly rare due to the K-Series engine's head gasket vulnerabilities.
