About the Renault Zoe Phase 1
Launched as one of the first purpose-built mass-market electric vehicles, the Renault Zoe Phase 1 brought EV technology to the B-segment. The R90 variant features Renault's own motor, which improved efficiency over the earlier Continental-sourced units. While early models were often sold with battery leasing schemes, the Zoe became a common sight in European cities due to its ease of use and 22kW AC charging capability. It remains a significant milestone in the transition to electrification, proving that small electric cars could be both desirable and functional.

Renault Zoe Phase 1 fun facts
- The Zoe was designed from the ground up as an electric car, rather than being adapted from an existing internal combustion engine platform.
- Early Zoe models featured a 'Chameleon' charger that could accept a wide range of AC power levels, from 3kW up to 43kW on some versions.
- The R90 motor was developed entirely in-house by Renault at their Cléon plant to improve energy efficiency and driving range.
