About the Renault 19
Launched in 1988 as the successor to the ageing 9 and 11, the Renault 19 represented a significant leap forward in build quality and refinement for the French marque. Styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro's Italdesign, it featured a modern, aerodynamic silhouette that helped it become a major success across Europe. The 1.4 Energy variant utilised Renault's then-new E-type overhead-cam engine, offering a balance of efficiency and respectable performance for the era. While the 16V models garner the most collector interest, the standard Energy models are increasingly rare survivors of the 1990s family car landscape.
