About the Pontiac GTO
The fourth-generation Pontiac GTO was a captive import based on the Australian Holden Monaro, brought to the US at the behest of Bob Lutz. For 2005, the model received a significant performance boost with the introduction of the 6.0-litre LS2 V8 from the C6 Corvette, replacing the previous 5.7-litre LS1. Visually, the 2005 model is distinguished by standard dual hood scoops and a split-exit exhaust system. While its understated styling was criticised for lacking muscle car aggression, it was praised for its refined chassis, high-quality interior, and genuine 160 mph performance.

Pontiac GTO fun facts
- The 2005 GTO was essentially a rebadged Holden Monaro, which was also sold in the UK as the Vauxhall Monaro VXR.
- A rare 'hood scoop delete' option (RPO code BZJ) was available for buyers who preferred the cleaner look of the 2004 model; only 24 were produced.
- The fuel tank was relocated to the boot to meet US safety standards, significantly reducing luggage space compared to its Australian donor car.
