About the Pontiac G6
Introduced for the 2005 model year, the Pontiac G6 replaced the long-running Grand Am and was built on GM's Epsilon platform, shared with the Chevrolet Malibu and Saab 9-3. The 3.5-litre V6 trim served as the launch engine, utilizing a pushrod design that prioritised low-end torque over high-revving refinement. It gained instant cultural notoriety when Oprah Winfrey gave away 276 examples to her studio audience during the season premiere. While it offered a more modern, European-influenced design than its predecessor, it struggled to compete with more refined Japanese rivals in the mid-size segment.
