About the Nissan Skyline GTS-R R31
The R31 GTS-R was built as a limited-run evolution model to homologate the Skyline for Group A touring car racing. It introduced the RB20DET-R engine, featuring a larger Garrett T04E turbocharger and a tubular stainless steel exhaust manifold, distinguishing it from the standard GTS. While the R31 generation was initially criticised for its boxy, luxury-oriented design, the GTS-R's track success in Japan and Australia restored the model's performance credentials. It serves as the direct engineering link between the earlier RS-Turbo and the legendary R32 GT-R, featuring the first iteration of Nissan's HICAS four-wheel steering.
