About the Nissan Presage U30

The first-generation Nissan Presage (U30) was launched in 1998 to compete with the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Estima in the burgeoning Japanese large MPV market. Sharing its platform with the Nissan R'nessa and Bassara, it was distinguished by its car-like hinged rear doors rather than the sliding doors common to the segment. The 2.5-litre YD25DDTi turbodiesel variant offered a balance of torque and efficiency, though it was eventually phased out in 2001 in favour of the QR25DE petrol engine. While it provided a comfortable, high-riding experience, its raised floor—a legacy of its crossover-derived chassis—limited its ultimate interior volume compared to rivals.
