About the Nissan Altima L30
The second-generation Nissan Altima, designated L30, was a significant departure from its predecessor, having been designed specifically for the North American market by Nissan's California studio. While it retained the robust KA24DE 2.4-litre engine, the L30 featured a more rigid structure and a revised interior that addressed the cramped rear quarters of the first generation. It was positioned as a sportier alternative to the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, offering a more engaging driving experience through its multi-link rear suspension. Though it lacked the 'bio-design' flair of the original, it solidified the Altima's reputation for reliability and value, paving the way for the high-performance V6 models that followed.

Nissan Altima L30 fun facts
- The L30 Altima was an American-market exclusive; the contemporary Japanese-market Bluebird U14 featured different body panels and a narrower track to meet local tax regulations.
- Despite its front-wheel-drive layout, the L30 was styled with a 'cab-rearward' silhouette to mimic the proportions of a rear-wheel-drive sports sedan.
- The KA24DE engine used in the Altima is a close relative of the engine found in the Nissan 240SX, though the Altima version uses a different block casting for its transverse layout.
