About the Chevrolet Lumina
The second-generation Chevrolet Lumina arrived for the 1995 model year with a significantly more rounded, aerodynamic design intended to compete directly with the Ford Taurus. Built on the GM W platform, it prioritised interior space and ride comfort, offering a standard 3.1-litre V6 that provided adequate, if unhurried, performance. While the coupe variant was rebranded as the Monte Carlo, the Lumina sedan became a staple of American roads and rental fleets throughout the late 1990s. It is remembered today as a competent, high-volume family hauler that bridged the gap between the boxy Celebrity and the revived front-drive Impala.

Chevrolet Lumina fun facts
- The Lumina nameplate was used for Chevrolet's NASCAR entries starting in 1989, over a year before the production car was actually available to the public.
- Despite being a quintessentially American sedan, the second-generation Lumina was manufactured exclusively at GM's Oshawa Car Assembly facility in Ontario, Canada.
- The 1995 redesign was delayed by 18 months during development, eventually launching with dual airbags as a key safety selling point.
