About the Morgan 4/4 Series V

The Series V 4/4 was introduced in February 1963 and built until March 1968 as a two-seater roadster, with 639 made. It replaced the Series IV's 1340 cc Ford Classic engine with the 1498 cc Ford 116E unit from the Cortina, rated at 65 bhp and driving through a Ford four-speed gearbox. The chassis kept Morgan's sliding-pillar front suspension with coil springs, a rigid rear axle on semi-elliptic leaf springs and the front disc brakes introduced on the Series IV. About 270 cars were Competition models with a Cortina GT-type engine, Weber carburettor and higher compression giving around 83 bhp, while the standard car's top speed was about 85 mph. The 4/4 1600 with Ford's Kent crossflow engine replaced it in 1968.
