About the Mitsubishi Tredia

Launched in 1982, the Mitsubishi Tredia was a compact sedan designed to slot between the Lancer and Galant. It was significant as one of the first models Mitsubishi sold in North America under its own brand name, rather than through Chrysler's dealer network. The 1.6-litre variant featured the innovative 'Super Shift' transmission, which used a secondary high-low range lever to provide eight forward speeds. While it never achieved the sales volume of its rivals, the Tredia is now a rare survivor of the 1980s Japanese 'wedge' design era, noted for its clean lines and advanced-for-the-time electronics.
