About the Hyundai Pony

The Hyundai Pony was a landmark vehicle, representing South Korea's first domestically developed mass-production car. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and engineered with the help of former British Leyland executives, it combined Italian styling with a rugged Mitsubishi-sourced powertrain and a chassis loosely based on the Morris Marina. The 1983 model year belongs to the second generation (Pony II), which introduced a more modern hatchback profile and improved build quality. While originally sold as disposable transportation, surviving examples have become highly sought-after by collectors as symbols of Hyundai's industrial heritage.
