About the Mitsubishi Grandis
Launched in 2003 to replace the ageing Space Wagon, the Mitsubishi Grandis was a departure from the traditional 'two-box' MPV design, featuring a sleek, aerodynamic silhouette designed by Olivier Boulay. It utilised the 2.4-litre 4G69 MIVEC engine, providing a more car-like driving experience than many of its contemporaries, though it lacked the outright versatility of rivals like the Chrysler Voyager. The interior featured a clever 'Hide & Seat' third row that could be folded into the floor or flipped rearward for tailgating. While it won design awards and praise for its looks, it struggled to compete with the rising popularity of SUVs and the efficiency of European diesel MPVs.
